All my life I have ridden a bike. As a child it provided freedom as a form of transport for riding over to friends’ places. It was also entertainment whether it be competing with siblings & friends to see who could jump the highest & race the fastest home or riding over One Tree Hill domain.
As a young adult, the bike continued as a form of transport but it also became a form of exercise. After a childhood of BMX bikes & ten speeds, I started riding mountain bikes but in recent years I moved into road bikes and in 2011 I competed in my first Lake Taupo Challange by entering in the Solo event.
The challenge was such a rewarding achievement & in 2012, I competed in the Waikato Winter Series with the plan to compete in the Lake Taupo Challange for a second year. Unfortunately, my participation in the event was cut short and I had to pull out within the first 40km due to suffering a hamstring injury.
I don't get out on the bike as much as I used to, but when I do, I still enjoy myself.
